As a part of its mission to preserve and develop the maritime cultural heritage and to increase people's knowledge about it, the Swedish National Maritime, Transport and Military Museums (SMMTF) assess the cultural-historical value of ships and leisure boats, lists culturally and historically interesting ships and offers economical subsidies to owners of historically valuable ships.

Subsidies for historical ships

Preserving older ships that are still in use is a complex and expensive business. SMMTF offers economical subsidies to owners of historically valuable ships. The subsidies are intended to stimulate the preservation of the cultural-historical elements of these ships.

Listing of historical ships

SMMTF lists culturally and historically interesting ships (so-called k-märkning). In this way, SMMTF aim to make them better recognized, preserved and used.
